2022 RECIPIENT—PAMELA EAKES


Between 1993 and 2004, Pamela Eakes founded and served as President of Mothers Against Violence in America (MAVIA), a national nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing violence by and against children. A national authority on youth violence prevention, she has been featured in national print and broadcast media, presented at national and international conferences and testified before Congress and state legislatures. 

Prior to founding MAVIA, Pam was an advertising executive with Leo Burnett Advertising in Chicago and a principal of Trimpe, Drury and Eakes Advertising in Seattle.  She currently serves on the board of the Metropolitan Urban League of Greater Seattle and the Northwest African-American Museum (NAMM). Her civic leadership has included service on the National Center for Safe Schools Board, Chair of the Dept. of Justice SAFEFUTURES grant for the City of Seattle, Governor’s Council on Juvenile Justice, the Governor’s Council on Citizen Service, and the Guild Association Board of Children’s Hospital and Medical Center.

Pam joined the Junior League in 1981 in St. Louis and transferred to the Seattle JL where she on the Board, Executive Committee and as an Area Council Member.

For her efforts in community service she was the recipient of the 2004 WA State PTA Friend of Children Award, the 2000 President’s Award from the National Association of School Psychologists, the 1999 Woman of Achievement Award from Women in Communications, the 1995 YWCA Isabel Coleman Pierce Community Service Award, the 1995 City of Seattle Violence Prevention Award, the Mercer Island 1995 Citizen of the Year Award and The Seattle Times 1994 Best of Puget Sound citizen. 

Born and raised in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Pam and her husband, Kenneth live in the Mt. Baker neighborhood of Seattle and have two children, Jason and Ryan.
