2011 RECIPIENT—KATHY RANDALL

The Junior League of Seattle 2011 Dorothy Stimson Bullitt Community Service Award is especially meaningful to Kathy Randall following nearly 50 years of volunteer service. Rarely one to turn down an opportunity to contribute, grow, or learn, she has embraced and appreciated the philanthropic invitations that have been extended to her. She believes strongly that a healthy competitive spirit and the responsibilities of leadership were planted during her high school years when she captained the girls swim team and captured state records. Kathy has carried these lessons into a variety of activities in the community and her private life.

Born in San Diego, Kathy lived in more than a dozen cities and attended eleven schools. Growing up in a military family and later moving several times as a result of corporate transfers, adapting to change is almost second nature to her and has forced her to be a self-starter and joiner. Kathy is a graduate of the Punahou School in Honolulu and the University of California, Berkeley. She began a career in banking with the Federal Reserve and Wells Fargo in San Francisco before moving to Phoenix.

Kathy joined the Junior League of Phoenix in 1978 and transferred to the Junior League of Seattle in 1981. In 1987 she became President of the Junior League of Seattle, following various placements which included the Kaleidoscope committee, chairing the Corporate Community Involvement and Community Research and Development committees, and serving as Long Range Planning Vice President.

Recognizing that the city of Seattle openly welcomes those who are willing to contribute, Kathy has volunteered with a variety of organizations. She was active on the YWCA Isabelle Coleman Pierce Award and Washington Gives committees. She served on several United Way of King County committees prior to being invited to participate on the Campaign Cabinet, and she co-chaired the Good Neighbor Society. Kathy served on the board of the American Red Cross of King and Kitsap Counties and was a Development Co-Chair as well as a member of the Capital Campaign committee. She also served on the boards of Seattle Children’s Home and Seattle Children’s Hospital.

In 1990 Kathy returned to Phoenix where she continued her volunteer career with the Arizona Theatre Company Board, Phoenix Chapter of ARCS Board, and the Scottsdale Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Upon returning to Seattle in 1996, Kathy was invited to rejoin the Red Cross and Seattle Children’s Hospital boards. Originally joining the Seattle Children’s Hospital Board of Trustees in 1988, her 14 year tenure (1988-90, 1997-2009) included chairing the Joint Conference committee, chairing the Ad Hoc Governance committee, and chairing the CEO Search Committee, as well as serving as chair of the Board from 2004-2006. Kathy currently serves on the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance Board where she is a member of the Board Patient Quality, Safety and Service committee, and chairs the Board Integrity Committee.

Kathy has been affiliated with a wide variety of organizations including City Club of Seattle, Washington Women’s Foundation, Seattle Foundation, the Seattle Chapter of ARCS, and several Phoenix organizations: Boys’ Hope, Girls Scouts, and Goodwill Industries. She co-chaired the Forest Ridge School Auction and participated on the parent board at Lakeside School.

Kathy is proud to be a Sustaining member of the Junior League of Seattle, an Honorary Trustee of Seattle Children’s Hospital, and a member of the Milnora de B. Roberts Guild. Most importantly, Kathy spends as much time as possible with her daughters Erin and Cameron and three grandchildren who all live close by on Mercer Island.
